Day 4: Monday at the Garden and on Route

Today we went on the route called the bluffs. Going out is such a great experience of getting out of your comfort zone because each person you meet is so different and has different needs. I felt like I grew a lot more comfortable praying with strangers and realized that no matter what you pray, as long as it's from the heart it doesn't really matter. Meeting people who have a faith in God already is one of the coolest experiences because they want to help you grow as well.

Today we went on another rout. We went with the second group of guys this time. They were much more low key then the first group, probably due to Sturling not being like talking to the guys because most of them have motorcycles and it's fun to talk to them about that. To be completely honest getting over the fear of praying with people wasn't that hard. It started to get really easy because it was fun watching people sincerely be appreciative of lunches and prayer. As far as little kids go I wasn't really that much of a hit except for this one girl who happened to have a birthday and she liked me cuz I played ball with her and I let her play minecraft in my iPad. So far this trip has been a total secession and worth every second

Today was a full day!  After getting up and heading down for breakfast with the residents we had a little time to brush our teeth, get dressed and have some quiet time (journaling and devotions) before heading down to make lunches for our route.  The men involved in the ministry have tables full of food ready for us.  Our job was to put one of each item in a lunch and bag all the lunches.  After lunches were put together, we prayed over the lunches and loaded up the vehicles and headed out.

We stopped at some apartments, but made most of our stops at specific street corners and parking lots.  It was a busy day today.  We were told that the first of the month has passed and many of the people have already spent all their money, so they'll be out looking for food.  We found we had no problem getting rid of our 100+ lunches.  We met with women and children and young men as well as people in their 60s and 70s.  One name that is stuck in my head after today is, Abbot.  Abbot is a veteran.  He told us about his nine years of service and how he was still traumatized by the things he saw and especially the things he did.  Abbot suffers from alcoholism as well and struggles to get by day by day.  He was extremely thankful for our prayers and praised God for us and for the 7 Bridges ministry.

We could probably share several stories as a group as we remember our stops and the people we talked with as we shared lunches and prayers.  It is such a blessing, and very humbling, to be used by God in this way.  It is a joy for Kim and I to watch as our students engage strangers when they walk over to our group.  Parents, I wish you could see your sons and daughters as they share the love of Christ through hugs, lunches, conversations and prayers.

After we got back from our route we made more lunches for the Monday night ministry.  Every Monday night some of the men involved in the ministry head out on their bikes and bring lunches out to the men on the streets.  When we were done making lunches, we sorted through mounds of donated candy, separating the candy into little variety packs that will be placed in lunches.  We probably spent close to two hours sorting candy and fellowshipping.  We may have tried a few pieces here and there just to make sure it was still good;).

After we finished, we were able to shower and get ready for "Bible Time" which happens at 5:00 sharp.  During this time, one of the men shares some scriptures he's been studying and then gives a brief message.  This is followed immediately by supper.

After supper we cleaned up tables and swept floors and then headed upstairs for a little down time.  We had our own Bible study at 6:45 and then headed downstairs at 7:30 to play with the kids until they went to bed around 9:00.  We then capped off our day with a quick run to Starbucks to enjoy some time for fellowship as a group.  We got back around 10:15  and after hanging out a little while made our way to bed around 11:20.  Tomorrow will come quick.  We can't wait to see what comes next!
